On the road from Oamaru to Cromwell, I passed this dam/power station and I was
struck by the beauty of the area. I could go on and on about how beautiful
the land is here in NZ, but it would soon get boring. There seems to be a
lot of surface water: lakes, streams, creeks and other bodies of water abound.
The pastures are all green and the sheep, cattle and antelope (yes, antelope!)
fat and content. Long rows of tall trees or hedges mark the boundaries
between pastures and cultivated woodlots are common. I did not see much in
the way of crops (a few fields of something that looked like lettuce and one or
two of corn) but it is early fall here, so I suppose most crops have been
harvested already.
(Note: I have been informed that those "antelope" are in fact deer. Well,
aren't deer antelope????)
